Hercules or Heimdall
2026-09-06
Two mythic captains, both at the top of the list. Let us see what the numbers say.
They do not do the same thing
Heimdall increases the strength of the whole army, in every fight there is. Hercules increases strength against epic monsters, and does nothing anywhere else.
That sounds like it settles it, and it nearly does — most of the attacking anyone does in this game is on epic monsters, and in an epic fight both bonuses apply. So the two really are competing for the same slot, and the comparison is arithmetic rather than a matter of taste.
What it also means is that a Hercules is dead weight in player against player, at citadels, and in a CP run. A Heimdall never is.
The arithmetic
Per level, Hercules gives 2 % and Heimdall 1.5 %. Over the six hundred levels a captain can reach that is 1,200 % against 900 %, and it is where Hercules’ reputation comes from.
The stars do not follow the same shape. Heimdall’s ladder is far more generous through the middle — at two stars he gives 110 % where Hercules gives 30 — and Hercules only passes him at the seventh, 860 against 660. So which of the two is ahead depends on both numbers at once, and for every star there is a level at which they cross.
The chart below is the whole comparison in one place. Set each captain to the stars you actually have — they need not be the same — and it marks the level at which one overtakes the other.
| Stars | Hercules | Heimdall | Hercules is ahead from |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | — | — | always |
| 2 | +30 % | +110 % | level 160 |
| 3 | +90 % | +220 % | level 260 |
| 4 | +180 % | +330 % | level 300 |
| 5 | +300 % | +440 % | level 280 |
| 6 | +510 % | +550 % | level 80 |
| 7 | +860 % | +660 % | always |
What that table says
Heimdall at seven stars beats Hercules at five at every one of the six hundred levels. They are closest at the very top, and even there it is 1,560 % against 1,500 %.
Below six stars Hercules needs a well-levelled captain before he is worth more than Heimdall in the fight he is built for. At four stars he does not pull ahead until level 300, which is halfway to the cap.
At level 600 and seven stars each: Hercules 2,060 % against an epic monster, Heimdall 1,560 % against everything. He wins the one fight by about a third and loses every other fight completely.
What it costs
Heimdall’s fragments come out of Season rewards — the Seasonal Kingdom and Season’s Legacy. They arrive by playing.
Hercules’ fragments come from the Triumphal Challenge sales, bought with real money — not with the tokens the event hands out. Hiring him costs 50 fragments, and the stars 80, 120, 200, 400, 800 and 1,600 on top: 3,250 fragments to the seventh star, every one of them paid for.
And the seventh star is exactly where Hercules stops needing a high level to be ahead.
So which
Heimdall, for almost everyone. Not because he hits harder against an epic — past six stars he does not — but because his stars arrive by turning up, and the stars are what decide it.
Hercules is for someone who was going to spend anyway and whose army does nothing but hit epic monsters. At seven stars he is the best there is at that one job.
